The superstition says that if a groundhog emerging from its nice burrow on this cold day sees a shadow thanks to clear weather, it will backdown to its den and winter will definitely persist for six more chill weeks, and if he does not, due to cloudiness in the street, warm spring season will arrive quite early. If he sees it, he understands it as an omen of six more weeks of awful weather and returns to his dear hole. If the day is very cloudy and shadowless, he takes it as a sign of coming spring and stays above ground.
